As an Archeologist, you will:
Engage in the study, inventory, monitoring, restoration, and management of historic and prehistoric cultural resources associated with the Klondike Gold Rush and Tlingit use of parkland. Carry out archaeological investigations in keeping with Section 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the Secretary of the Interior's Standards and Guidelines for Archaeology and Historic Preservation, identify and document the significance of findings, and prepare management and scientific reports for peer review and publication. Serve as an adviser to park management on cultural resources. Identify, evaluate, and monitor cultural resources, identify potential threats, and make recommendations to management regarding status and mitigation of impacts (present and future). Work cooperatively with other agencies and government entities including Parks Canada and the local Federally Recognized Tribes. Serve as the Park's cultural resource GIS coordinator, develop and maintain cultural resource GIS data for the whole park. Serve as the park compliance coordinator and in conjunction with the Interdisciplinary Team for Compliance, ensures protection of all resources - cultural and natural - in accordance with the National Historic Preservation Act, Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, the Archaeological Resources Protection Act, the National Environmental Policy Acts, and others. This is a permanent, career seasonal position. The work schedule provides for at least 40 weeks (20 pay periods) of full-time work and up to 12 weeks (6 pay periods) of non-duty/non-pay time per year. It is possible that work time can be extended. When your services are not required due to lack of work, lack of funds, weather conditions or for other reasons, you will be placed in a non-work/non-pay status. You will have the option to continue your health coverage while in non-pay status. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis.The typical field season is from April through October. Up to 12 weeks of scheduled non-duty/non-pay time with occur between November and March, as scheduled by the employee and supervisor. All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-04/10/2020-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect either full-time or 40 hours per week. If a part-time work schedule is reflected, the hours must be annotated to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Basic Qualification of the Secretary of the Interiors Professional Standards:
Graduate level or higher degree in Anthropology with a specialization in Prehistoric Archeology, or a graduate degree in Archeology with a specialization in Prehistoric Archeology, or a graduate degree in a closely related field (see Academic Background for Archeology), PLUS a minimum of two and one-half (2 1/2) years of full-time professional experience in applying the theories, methods, and practices of Archeology that enables professional judgments to be made about the identification, evaluation, documentation, registration, or treatment of prehistoric archeological properties in the United States and its Territories (at least six months of experience must have been acquired in the performance of field and analytical activities under the supervision of a professional prehistoric archeologist, and one year of experience in the study of the archeological resources of the prehistoric period must have been at a supervisory level); AND products and activities that demonstrate the successful application of acquired proficiencies in the discipline to the practice of historic preservation OR Graduate degree in Anthropology with a specialization in Historical Archeology, or a graduate degree in Archeology with a specialization in Historical Archeology, or a graduate degree in a closely related field (see Academic Background for Archeology), PLUS a minimum of two and one-half (2 1/2) years of full-time professional experience applying the theories, methods, and practices of Archeology that enables professional judgments to be made about the identification, evaluation, documentation, registration, or treatment of historic archeological properties in the United States and its Territories (at least six months of experience must have been acquired in the performance of field and analytical activities under the supervision of a professional Historical Archeologist, and one year of experience in the study of the archeological resources of the historic period must have been at a supervisory level); AND products and activities that demonstrate the successful application of acquired proficiencies in the discipline to the practice of historic preservation Basic Qualification Requirements:
Degree that included 3 semester hours each in the following course areas:
History of archeology; Archeology of a major geographical area such as North America or Africa; Regional archeology, archeological cultures, or sites in a specific part or portion of a major geographical area to acquire or develop a foundation for regional specialization for professional development; Theory and methods of archeology. Methods include, but are not limited to, typology, classification, sampling, cultural evolution, diffusion, dating, and analytical techniques; Archeological field school, to provide a basic understanding of theoretical and practical approaches to research design implementation, field preservation techniques, and report preparation by participation in actual field work; AND,Six semester hours of related course work in:
geography, geology, or cultural geography;history, historiography, or historical archeology;environmental studies;scientific writing (nonfiction English composition); and/orsurveying;AND,Archeological field school. OR Successfully completed related curriculum:
a degree in anthropology (with emphasis on ethnology, physical anthropology, or scientific linguistics), history, American studies, or a related discipline, may be accepted as satisfying in full the educational requirements, provided the curriculum supplied academic course work sufficiently similar to the requirements in A (including archeological field school). OR Combination of education and
Experience:
of College-level education or training that provided knowledge equivalent to that described in A above, plus appropriate technical experience or additional education. OR Experience of four years of archeological work experience that demonstrated a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional archeology. The work experience must have included archeology field experience, which may include that gained in an archeological field school. Field experience should have included a combination of professional experience in archeological survey, excavation, laboratory analysis, and preparation of written materials. Applicants with such field experience should, after additional experience under the direction of a higher grade archeologist, be able to demonstrate the ability to be a crew chief, directing the work of others at a single location as a part of a larger archeological project. Experience:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include duties such as:
planning and conducting archeological investigations; conducting archeological surveys, testing, excavation, and monitoring of projects; performing field inspections, research, and project resource assessments; reviewing cultural resource permits and fieldwork plans; utilizing computerized systems to process, and analyze archaeological data; planning long range protection and management of cultural resources. OR Education:
3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. OR Equivalent combination of education and experience, which must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. For example, I have 6 months of the specialized experience equivalent (50 percent of the experience requirement for GS-11) and 45 semester hours or 68 quarter hours of appropriate directly related graduate education (50 percent of the education requirement for GS-11). The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
